Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to compete in a Spartan Race this summer
Donald Trump surprised the Obstacle Course Racing community by stating yesterday in an interview on CNN that he will run a Spartan Race this summer. He then added that he will forgo the open and new competitive heat and enter the elite heat, where the best athletes face-off on a brutal military inspired obstacle course.
When pressed by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer as to why Tump age 69 feels he is well suited for a military type race, Trump declared “I do very well at it; military. I am the toughest guy.” The Spartan Race website states that individuals new to the sport of OCR should first enter into an open wave and that only those who wish to race against the best in addition to those who have a chance of winning should register in the elite heat. When pressed as to why he wishes to race elite, Trump declared; “I’m going to win so much, you’re going to get sick and tired of me winning but you know what? I’m going to keep winning anyway.” Trump then went on to criticize the Spartan Race Pro Team as having no chance against him due to their “low energy”.
We reached out to the Trump campaign with some follow-up questions and received the following statements:
Adam Kwitko: What obstacle do you expect to give you the least trouble?
Donald Trump: 8 foot walls. Those are peanuts! I’ve been practicing on my own walls and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me. And I don’t mean a wall where you go to Home Depot and buy a ladder and walk across. I mean a wallllllllllll. Much higher!
Adam Kwitko:
Which obstacle do you think will provide you with the most difficulty?
Donald Trump:
Nothing, I’m the toughest guy.
Adam Kwitko: How’s your grip strength?
Donald Trump: My grip is strong. My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.
Adam Kwitko: Which Spartan Race will you run and have you signed up yet?
Donald Trump: I have not yet decided and to be honest, it doen’t matter. I’m really rich and don’t mind paying the late registration price.
